List Building is Not About A Bunch of Names and Email Addresses

It is about list building.
One thing I think we all have to remember when we’re marketing online, and of course this is a list-building article–the idea with list-building is not just about gathering a huge vault of names and email addresses, it’s about building relationships. I would rather build one-hundred relationships online with people who really respect me, like the way I do things–and then of course those people would pay me over time to help them do the very same thing.
I’d rather have that list of one-hundred people than frankly the seven-thousand people that I have on my list, and I try to create a relationship with each one of those people. But I know that some of my emails are really cheesy emails, and you and I both know they all come out of an Auto-Responder.
List-building online is really about creating relationships, it’s not about creating a huge list of nameless, faceless names and email addresses.
You just cannot start thinking that all you have to do is get online and start collecting, buying, whatever, names and email addresses. You have to get creative, and get to know people, and then give them an irresistible reason to subscribe to your list.
That is only the beginning. Once they are on your list, you have to start building a relationship with them.
Would you ask someone to marry you on the first date? Well, it is the same with list building – they aren’t going to buy your biggest product after the first email. You have to build a relationship with them.
